Marjeanne Stone
I started playing
piano and organ for church at the age of 10 and received my BA with honors in
music with organ and vocal performance.
I served as organist at St. James Lutheran Church in Redding, CA for 35
years. While music has been a major
part of my life, I turned a few corners in my personal journey, and developed a
passion for human services. I
worked for Far Northern Regional Center for 20 years in the field of development
disabilities services. I obtained a
MA in addictions. I’ve volunteered
for several non-profit agencies, including over 25 years with the Empire
Recovery Center, a 42 bed residential alcohol and drug treatment program with
two outpatient treatment centers. I
am the proud Nana for young Hannah and James.
I started playing
handbells over 15 years ago. I was
intrigued with what is really a newer genre of music and wanted the opportunity
to be a part of an ensemble instead of being a soloist.
Carillons have become a vital adjunct to my life.
Sharing with other ringers brings me personal balance, growth, and
challenge. I love the technical
intricacies as well as the varieties of musical styles.
But more than that, I cherish the relationships with my fellow musicians.
And as Hannah reminds me, “Nana, you’re a
real ding-a ling!”
